“There’s no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one.” – Jill Churchill
Moms are amazing. Whether you are a biological mother, a God mother, a step-mother, a foster mother, or you play a significant role in a child’s life, you are an AMAZING woman. You are kind. You are giving. You are generous. Your heart knows no boundary.
As mothers, we are sold the illusion that we can “have it all”. We can have a full-time career, break the glass ceiling, all while we deliver 100 cupcakes to the PTA bake sale, balance a home, children and marriage in high heels without breaking a sweat. And if we try to live-up to this lie, we feel miserable, less than, exhausted…like we failed.
Having it all, is a lie.
Shonda Rhimes expressed it best.
“I wish that more women would discuss this topic. There’s so much pressure to be superwoman when it’s just not possible. No matter how hard you try, you can’t be the perfect mom and wife and daughter and sister and friend and businesswoman all at the same time. It is physically and emotionally impossible. You only have so much energy to give, and it has to be divided between your priorities.”
She’s telling women the truth and I respect that. You can watch her speech here: 2014 Dartmouth Commencement speech
I do my best as a mom and I bet you do too. I am breaking a sweat every. damn. day. Being a mom IS a super-power. Period. And all of us, are amazing women.
